India vs Bangladesh 1st Test: Jaiswal, Pant rebuild India's innings to 88/3 at lunch after shaky start
Dhaka: Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bowl first in the opener of the two-Test series at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The two nations face each other after both of them dominated series earlier this year. India had defeated England 4-1 at home while Bangladesh clean swept (2-0) Pakistan in an away series.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant are rebuilding the Indian innings after Bangladesh removed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli early in the Chennai Test. Their partnership came after India, who elected to bat in the first of the two-Test series, were reduced to 34-3.
Hasan Mahmud took all three crucial wickets of skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli.
Hasan got rid of the Indian captain with an off-stump delivery hitting outside edge trajecting the ball straight to Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto's hand at the second slip. Mahmud continued his streak with dismissing Gill for a golden duck as wicketkeeper Litton Das dove to his left taking the catch.
Kohli was dismissed by the impressive Hasan Mahmud when he fumbled with his drive from a wide of the off stump ball and it sailed right into the keeper's gloves.
At lunch, India are 88/3 at the end of 23 overs
Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and elected to bowl against India in the first Test of the two-match series here on Thursday.
India have gone with three seamers -- Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep and Mohammed Siraj and the spin duo of Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja in their playing eleven.
Bangladesh too have opted for three pacers on what looks like a seam-friendly Chepauk pitch.
It is the first time in 21 Tests that a team opted to bowl after winning the toss at the Chepauk. Last time a side elected to bowl here was in 1982.
