Chirala: Tension prevailed at Ram Nagar here after Chirala II Town CI A Sasi Kumar was caught on CCTV hurling abusive language at a 70‑year‑old woman and threatening her during a cordon and search operation on Sunday.
The footage went viral on Sunday evening and triggered sharp public criticism on Monday, with locals alleging the officer routinely intimidates residents without cause.
In one video, the CI and his staff are seen entering the home of M Jalamma, kicking open a kitchen door and moving through the rooms.
Another clip shows the officer shouting F‑words, raising his lathi, and threatening the woman for “not showing respect.” Jalamma appears shocked and distressed, pleading with him to stop.
CI Sasi Kumar said he visited the house as part of the operation and claimed the woman’s family members are accused in several cases, including illicit liquor, ganja, POCSO and other offences. He alleged that Jalamma refused to answer his questions and used abusive language, which he said provoked his outburst.
Leaders of people’s organsiations and Dalit organisations demanded immediate action, alleging the CI is known for corruption, abusive conduct toward the poor, and favouritism toward influential groups.
They said similar complaints were made against him in Chirala, Naguluppalapadu and Ongole, but no action was taken earlier due to “lack of proof.” They urged the district SP and DGP to act now in light of the viral videos.
