Hyderabad: The Telangana Civil Supplies Department has intensified preparations for paddy procurement for the Kharif 2026-27, focusing on expanding storage capacity, clearing existing stocks and mechanising procurement centres (PPCs).
A high-level review meeting was held at Civil Supplies Bhavan on Tuesday to assess logistics and infrastructure arrangements ahead of the procurement season.
The department is finalising plans to direct District Collectors to identify and secure all viable storage facilities in their districts.
These include godowns, market yards, vacant industrial sheds, function halls, open spaces and Cover and Plinth (CAP) storage facilities. Officials are also planning rapid stock evacuation drives to clear existing godowns and maximise space for incoming paddy.
The Agriculture and MARKFED departments are taking similar steps to clear their storage facilities and ensure adequate space is available before procurement begins.
The meeting reviewed the progress of mechanisation at PPCs, including procurement of automatic paddy cleaners and modern mechanical stackers.
The equipment is expected to speed up grain handling, reduce farmers’ waiting time and ease logistical bottlenecks during the peak procurement period. Officials also examined an automated ‘Farm to Silo’ framework for modernising the procurement and storage chain.
The proposed system covers digital weighbridges, scientific sampling, pre-cleaning, grain dryers, automated bulk silos and integrated linkages with rice mills.
The meeting was chaired by M Stephen Raveendra, IPS, Ex-Officio Principal Secretary to Government, CAF&CS and Commissioner of Civil Supplies. Senior officials from Agriculture, SERP, TGSWC, MARKFED and Civil Supplies attended the review.
