Hyderabad: Expelled All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Mirza Rahmath Baig has reportedly gone missing after returning to Hyderabad on Saturday, August 29.
The development comes amid allegations against him, his expulsion from the party and his decision not to resign from the Telangana Legislative Council.
Baig has denied the allegations and maintained that he has not done anything wrong. In his first remarks after his expulsion, he described the reports against him as untrue and alleged that deepfake videos were being circulated to damage his reputation.
Social media allegations surfaced claiming that Baig had sexually assaulted a minor girl. Baig rejected the allegations and said there was no truth in them.
He alleged that fake videos created using deepfake technology were being circulated with the intention of defaming him.
Baig also said that he hoped AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi would ensure justice for him. He expressed his willingness to continue working as an AIMIM party worker.
Baig clarified that he had not gone anywhere and was away on an Umrah pilgrimage. He returned to Hyderabad on Saturday.
His reported disappearance after his return has added another development to the controversy surrounding him.
AIMIM expelled Rahmath Baig from the party with immediate effect on August 29 and directed him to resign from his Telangana Legislative Council post.
In a brief statement, AIMIM joint secretary SA Hussain Anwar said Baig must immediately submit his resignation to the Chairman of the Legislative Council. The party statement did not give details about the reason for the disciplinary action.
However, Baig has decided not to resign from his MLC position and said he wants to continue working as a party worker.
The allegations have triggered a political controversy in Telangana. The BJP and BRS have called for a comprehensive investigation.
BJP state chief spokesperson NV Subash said the AIMIM’s action against Baig for “indiscipline” was not enough and that a transparent investigation into the allegations was still required.
He also urged the Telangana government to make the facts public and ensure that the investigation is not influenced by political considerations.
The latest developments came a day after reports that Baig had approached the Hyderabad Cyber Crime Police.
When asked for the reaction of Press Secretary Advocate (HC) RP Raju @ Mohammed Raju of the Moolavasaies (OBCs, SCs, STs, Muslims and Christians) Freedom Party, Raju Mohammed said that there is nothing new to tell about the progress of the AIMIM to the subjects of the old city of Hyderabad.
The AIMIM's progres can be politically said " Old wine in new bottle" as the AIMIM is staging a drama to divest attention of the people of old walled city from their burning basic issues of Roti, Kapda and makaan RP Raju Mohammed added. Due to Raju's secular approach it may be recalled that Advocate RP Raju is addressed as Raju Mohammed by the Freedom Party workers.
RP Raju Mohammed recalled when the Chairman of the National Working Committee M.A. Mujeeb had questioned AIMIM President Asaduddin Owaisi and his MLAs, MLCs and Counselors about their last 70 years political progress and whether any commoner's socio and economic condition has been improved ? Raju Mohammed said that this is the MIM's answer to divert the voter's attention when the Hyderabad Local Government is going for pols shorty.
This is the reply they are staging drama between Owaisi and MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig and it is left to the masses to adjudge the factual reasons Raju Mohammed said. However it is AIMIM's internal matter and Freedom Party considers AIMIM is burden on old city Muslims and it remain as a factual liability to Muslims in India, Press Secretary of Freedom party Raju Mohammed said.
Raju Mohammed told IWP that for the next 5000 years too, AIMIM will never reach the ruling entity status or can not become an opposition party in any state Raju Mohammed added.
When IWP was asked whether Freedom Party and its crucial minorities political hand the Muslim Federation of India will welcome MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig if he seeeks membership of Freedom Party, Raju Mohammed said Freedom Party does not believe AIMIM and RSS/BJP workers as they do not work for the good of the nation and for the empowerment of moolavasy OBCs, SCs, STs and Minorities as they are one and the same, Raju added.
MLC Mirza Rahmath Baig allegedly complained that unidentified persons were threatening and blackmailing him, claiming they would release deepfake and morphed photographs and videos of him unless he paid them money.
Baig has maintained that the allegations against him are false and that deepfake content is being used to harm his reputation.
