Nandyal: District Collector G Rajakumari was honored with the prestigious Red Cross Gold Medal and a certificate of appreciation by Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer for her distinguished services through the Indian Red Cross Society.
The recognition was conferred at the State Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Indian Red Cross Society held at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in Vijayawada on Tuesday.
The award recognized her dedicated efforts in establishing a fully functional blood storage unit, setting up a Pradhan Mantri Bharatiya Janaushadhi Kendra, and successfully implementing the ‘Mee Intiki Mee Doctor’ healthcare program in Nandyal district.
Speaking on the occasion, Collector Rajakumari recalled that following the formation of Nandyal district, the Red Cross Society lacked a permanent building and basic infrastructure.
Under her leadership, an old Japan Project building from the Water Resources Department was allotted and modernized into a permanent facility.
To strengthen healthcare support, a modern blood storage unit with freezers, air conditioners, and a dedicated technician was established.
Additionally, a solar power system was installed via NEDCAP to reduce energy costs, and a Janaushadhi Kendra was opened on the GGH premises with donor support to offer affordable medicines.
The Collector urged youth and women to donate blood every three months and announced plans to expand blood storage units and Janaushadhi Kendras to Dhone,
Srisailam, and accident-prone zones along NH-40 and NH-340C. Red Cross state chairman YD Ramarao and CEO Ashwini Kumar Farida attended the event.
