Kurnool: Water was formally released through the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi Lift Irrigation Scheme on Saturday to fill 77 minor irrigation and drinking water tanks spread across the Dhone and Pathikonda Assembly constituencies.
Dhone MLA Kotla Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy and Pathikonda MLA KE Shyam Babu participated as chief guests and officially initiated the water discharge.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Kotla Jaya Surya Prakash Reddy emphasized that due to erratic and inadequate rainfall across the region, making optimal and timely use of available river water resources is essential.
He explained that public representatives from the region had urgently requested the State government to release Handri-Neeva water to these 77 tanks to safeguard standing crops and address the acute drinking water shortages facing rural habitations.
The MLA noted that filling these 77 tanks will provide vital irrigation security to farmers across Dhone and Pathikonda constituencies while significantly replenishing local groundwater levels to meet domestic drinking needs.
He detailed how he had personally met State Water Resources Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu at the State Secretariat, along with Ministers and MLAs from Nandyal district, to press for an immediate water release.
Expressing gratitude to Minister Nimmala Ramanaidu and the State government for their prompt and positive response, Kotla Surya Prakash Reddy reaffirmed that the coalition administration remains steadfast in prioritizing agricultural welfare and ensuring dependable drinking water accessibility for every household.
