Hyderabad: The cricket frenzy fans in the city are set to get yet another big cricket stadium with international standards as the government is planning to construct a new stadium in Kandukur mandal’s Begarikancha, in close proximity to the Young India Integrated Skills University.
Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy aspires to have a world-class cricket stadium in his ambitious Fourth City.
The stadium will be built by the State government in collaboration with the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India). As part of the pact, the state government will provide land forconstructing an ultra-modern stadium.
Officials said that this move was seen as part of a broader strategy to decentralize sporting venues and avoid over-reliance on central locations within the city. Revanth Reddy has been reiterating that the government would promote sports in a big way.
Apart from allocating Rs 321 crore for sports in the budget, he announced a sports policy after studying the policies pursued by states like Haryana.
This will be the third cricket stadium in the city after LB Stadium and the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium (RGICS). This will imply that the proposed stadium and RGICS will be affiliated to BCCI.
Once established, Hyderabad will join an elite league of cities boasting of more than one state-0f-the-art cricket stadium in the country.
