Nizamabad: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated at the Sneha Society for Rural Reconstruction Divyangula School in Nizamabad with patriotic fervour. 

Sneha Society Secretary S. Siddaiah and Principal Jyoti hoisted the national flag, followed by the national anthem and cultural programmes featuring patriotic songs. 

Chief guests retired headmistress Dasari Vijayananda Rao and renowned gynaecologist Dr. Savita Rani paid tributes to freedom fighters and highlighted the sacrifices made during India’s struggle for independence. 

They recalled the contributions of Mahatma Gandhi, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Alluri Sitarama Raju. 

The speakers urged children, youth and adults to draw inspiration from the freedom fighters and work for national unity and development. 

Prizes were presented to winners of sports competitions organised for students with disabilities. 

School staff, Sneha Society members and other guests participated in the programme.
