Southwest monsoon enters Rayalaseema 

Amaravati: The southwest monsoon has entered parts of the Rayalaseema region, marking the beginning of the rainy season in Andhra Pradesh, with conditions turning favourable for its further advance across the state over the next two to three days. 

State Disaster Management Authority managing director Prakhar Jain said the monsoon's progress was confirmed based on data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and analysis through the RTGS-AWARE platform. 

However, he cautioned that this year's monsoon is likely to be characterized by uneven rainfall distribution and frequent “monsoon breaks,” where rainy spells could be followed by prolonged dry periods. 

Jain advised farmers to factor these conditions into crop planning and agricultural operations, noting that localized weather systems could partially offset the expected rainfall deficit in some regions. 

According to the seasonal outlook for June–September 2026, below-normal rainfall is expected in a large part of Andhra Pradesh, including Polavaram, East Godavari, West Godavari, Konaseema, Kurnool, Nandyal, Markapuram, Anantapur, YSR Kadapa, SPSR Nellore, Sri Sathya Sai, Annamayya, Chittoor and Tirupati districts. 

In contrast, above-normal rainfall is forecast for Eluru, NTR, Guntur, Bapatla, Palnadu and Prakasam districts. Normal monsoon conditions are expected in Srikakulam, Parvathipuram Manyam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Anakapalli, Alluri Sitarama Raju, Kakinada and Krishna districts. 

Despite the monsoon's arrival, heat conditions are expected to persist in parts of North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Severe heatwave conditions are forecast in 58 mandals, including 12 in Srikakulam, 22 in Vizianagaram, 12 in Parvathipuram Manyam, one in Alluri Sitarama Raju, two in Polavaram, one in Visakhapatnam and eight in Kakinada district.
