Tobacco & diabetes increase amputation risk 

Nellore: Speaking at a doctors’ awareness program on National Vascular Surgery Day, Dr Y Sudarshan Reddy, Vascular Surgeon at Medicover Hospitals, warned that combining tobacco habits with diabetes severely damages blood vessels and increases limb amputation risks.

He explained that nicotine thickens blood and blocks circulation, with early symptoms including leg pain while walking short distances. 

Dr Sudarshan emphasized that early-stage blockages can be managed with medication, while modern endovascular surgeries can restore blood flow and save legs and fingers from amputation even in advanced cases.
