Chandrababu Naidu turned vicious on Land Act: Jagan Mohan Reddy

VIJAYAWADA: A day after the tripartite alliance announced in its manifesto that it would scrap the Land Titling Act, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said that Opposition Leader N Chandrababu Naidu had started a vicious campaign against the Act.

He said that the Act was intended to resolve the centuries-old land disputes and provide clear land titles to the land-holders.

Addressing a public meeting in Bobbili of Vizianagaram district on Wednesday, he said people were flooded with messages and IVR calls regarding the Land Titling Act. “They are using every possible medium to tarnish my image,” he observed.

He said, “The Act aims to provide land rights to individuals. It was during the British rule that the lands were surveyed last time. We are doing what no one had done in the past. Over 15,000 staff are surveying the lands across 15,000 village secretariats.”

The Chief Minister said due to the gross negligence of the previous governments, sub-divisions were carved out without proper boundaries, leading to difficulties for the public in property transactions and legal disputes with the revenue department.

“I am the one who gives land to the poor unlike the TDP chief, who usurps land from the poor,’’ he asserted.

Jagan, who also addressed public meetings at Payakaraopeta and Eluru, termed the 2024 elections a choice between his agenda, which is progressive and Naidu’s, which is regressive.

The Chief Minister said the choice before the people is between his credibility, who initiated various welfare measures through DBT, and the hypocrisy of Naidu who has no consistent policy. “Naidu has scant respect for manifesto and election promises,” he remarked.

Jagan said Naidu’s frustration reached new heights and he has even started speaking in terms of eliminating me. “Such talk stems from desperation and helplessness. I will not be cowed down by such lame threats as I have the blessings of the people in abundance. They stand as a shield to me,’’ he averred.

The coming elections are a war between classes and not castes. “I am taking the side of the poor and Naidu is leading the feudal forces,” he said and reeled off welfare schemes, amount spent while bringing in revolutionary changes in various sectors.

“Our government has distributed Rs 2.70 lakh crores through DBT with full transparency. Our government has ushered in an unprecedented revolution in the administration, and in several other sectors, including education through English medium in schools and implementing a plethora of schemes like Amma Vodi, Jagananna Vidya Deevena and Vasathi Deevena,’’ he added.
