JC launches electrical safety drive, unveils awareness posters

Kurnool: Calling for greater public awareness to prevent electrical accidents, Joint Collector Noorul Qamar on Monday said that strict adherence to electrical safety guidelines is essential to safeguard lives and property. 

He observed that most electrical mishaps could be avoided through timely precautions and urged people not to ignore basic safety practices, particularly during the monsoon season. 

The Joint Collector was speaking after unveiling an electrical safety awareness poster at the Sunayana Conference Hall in the Collectorate. 

He instructed officials of the Electricity Department to undertake extensive awareness campaigns so that safety instructions reach people in both urban and rural areas, enabling them to handle electrical installations with greater care. 

Highlighting common causes of electrical accidents, Noorul Qamar advised farmers, household consumers, commercial establishments and construction workers to remain vigilant while using electrical equipment. 

He cautioned people against going near damaged power lines, electric poles and transformers and said any snapped or hanging wires should be reported immediately to the concerned authorities. 

He also stressed that electrical repair works should be entrusted only to qualified personnel and warned against handling electrical appliances with wet hands. 

Appealing for collective responsibility, the Joint Collector urged parents to protect children from electrical hazards and asked the public to dial the Electricity Department’s toll-free helpline 1912 in case of emergencies. 

He expressed confidence that sustained public awareness and strict compliance with safety norms would significantly reduce electrical accidents. District Revenue Officer Venkata Narayanamma,
