Restore Godavari water for Krishna delta farmers 

Gannavaram : Former Gannavaram MLA Dr Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan, along with farmers, inspects the site from where irrigation motors were removed from the Polavaram Right Main Canal at Tempalli village in Gannavaram mandal of Krishna district on Monday, 

Former Gannavaram MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan appeals to CM Chandrababu Naidu to permit water lifting from the Polavaram Right Main Canal, citing severe crop loss and drinking water shortages for farmers in Krishna and NTR districts. 

Former Gannavaram MLA Dr Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan on Monday announced that he would seek an appointment with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, along with farmers from NTR and Krishna districts, urging the government to permit lifting of Godavari river water from the Polavaram Right Main Canal (PRMC), which receives water through the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme, to protect standing crops, paddy nurseries and drinking water sources. 

Vamsi made the announcement after undertaking a whirlwind tour of Tempalli, Veerapanenigudem and Kottagudem villages in Gannavaram mandal of Krishna district, where he inspected dried-up paddy fields, villages affected by the removal of irrigation motors from the PRMC, and a drinking water tank in Kottagudem that has reportedly run dry. 

Interacting with farmers, Vamsi said he was deeply moved by the hardships faced by villagers due to the lack of irrigation and drinking water. He assured them that he would personally take up their concerns with the Chief Minister and request immediate 

Vamsi also said he had always supported the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme, even after joining another political party, describing it as a crucial project that not only stabilised the Krishna Delta but also benefited villages located along the Polavaram Right Main Canal. 

Expressing concern over the present situation, Vamsi alleged that the government encouraged farmers to take up paddy cultivation by supplying subsidised seed and assuring irrigation water during June and July. 

However, with the recent removal of motors and disconnection of power supply, paddy nurseries and standing crops are now drying up. 

He said many farmers had already invested Rs 20,000 to Rs 30,000 per acre and were staring at heavy losses. Gannavaram ZPTC Member Annavarapu Elizabeth Rani, Mandal Parishad President Anagani Ravi, and several farmers accompanied Vallabhaneni Vamsi Mohan.
