Dharmavaram: Ina major step towards providing a permanent solution to drinking water issues in Dharmavaram town, a comprehensive water supply development project worth Rs 31.73 crore has been sanctioned under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme.

The project was approved through the coordinated funding support of the Central and State governments following the initiative of State Health Minister and Dharmavaram MLA Satya Kumar Yadav.

According to the Minister’s Office, the project has been designed with modern technological standards to meet future drinking water demands and ensure uninterrupted supply of safe drinking water to residents.

The project includes installation of advanced pumping systems, construction of elevated water storage reservoirs, modernization of the existing water treatment infrastructure, and expansion of the town’s pipeline network.

As part of the project, two advanced vertical turbine pump sets with a capacity of 17,460 litres per minute and an 83-metre head will be installed near the intake well at CBR. Additional centrifugal pump sets of similar capacity will also be established at Thammampuram.

To improve water storage capacity, new RCC Elevated Level Service Reservoirs (ELSRs) with 1,000 KL capacity each will be constructed at Ramnagar-2, Shantinagar, and Giriraj Colony.

The existing water treatment plant will be upgraded into a modern 10 MLD facility with advanced purification systems.

The Minister’s Office stated that over 35.7 kilometres of HDPE pipelines ranging from 110 mm to 250 mm in size will be laid across Dharmavaram town.

In addition, 722 metres of DI K9 pipelines will be installed for major pumping lines. The project will also include road restoration works, valve chambers, sluice valves, and air valves.

Modern SCADA and automation technologies will be implemented to ensure efficient 24-hour drinking water supply management. The project will further incorporate GIS-based mapping, hydraulic modelling, customer surveys, and asset mapping for improved operational planning and monitoring.

The Minister’s Office stated that the project reflects the government’s priority towards Dharmavaram constituency development and aims to eliminate future drinking water shortages in the town.
