Telangana Medical Shops To Close in Protest Over Online Medicine Sales

Hyderabad :  Telangana Druggists and Pharmacists Association protests against the rise of online medicine sales.Medical shops across Telangana will remain closed on Wednesday as the Telangana Druggists and Pharmacists Association protests against the rise of online medicine sales.

The association expressed deep concern that traditional medical businesses are being severely undermined, risking the livelihoods of millions.

They allege medicines are sold online without physical verification, with fake prescriptions generated through artificial intelligence allowing easy access to antibiotics and narcotics—posing a serious public health threat.

Members criticised large corporate online platforms offering massive discounts, causing significant financial losses to small shop owners in both rural and urban areas.

They also demanded the immediate repeal of emergency notifications GSR 220(E) and GSR 817(E), issued during the COVID-19 pandemic for home delivery of medicines.

Sridhar Gupta, Vice President of the association, assured the public that pharmacies within major hospitals and select emergency outlets would remain operational for urgent needs.
