District Census Handbook key to development planning: Collector Sumit Kumar
Chittoor: District Collector Sumit Kumar said that the District Census Handbook is one of the most important official documents and plays a key role in planning future development.
Speaking at a training programme on the preparation of the District Census Handbook held in the Collectorate on Wednesday, he said that development plans for villages and towns are prepared based on accurate and comprehensive information collected for every area and every sector.
The Collector asked mandal-level officials to actively participate in the District Census Handbook exercise and ensure the collection of quality data at the field level.
Officials were directed to verify every detail during the census process before recording it. The census staff should be provided proper training and complete the work under effective supervision.
Referring to the preparations for Census-2027, the Collector said that training programmes should be conducted in phases for mandal-level officials and field staff.
He instructed officials to provide all required forms and guidelines to the staff.
After the training, officials should regularly follow up with field staff and ensure that the information collected is verified through the concerned departments.
Officials should coordinate with departments such as R&B, SCPR, Housing, Health, DCHS, Municipal Administration, Education and Industries to collect the required information.
The Collector also directed officials to coordinate with mandal tahsildars and other concerned officers before every training programme. Continuous monitoring, verification and follow-up at the field level are essential to produce accurate and reliable statistics.
He called upon all officials to work responsibly and ensure that the District Census Handbook becomes a highly reliable document without any negligence in the census process.
District Revenue Officer Mohan Kumar, Assistant Director of the State Census Department Supraja, Statistical Investigator Lakshmi Kala and other officials participated in the programme.
